Billy
Billy stood in the shadow of the rusting city steel with his eyes hidden behind a pair of Ray-Bans. He had come out for a last look around before the sunset painted the sky in shades of orange and purple and the sun became a multi-colored ball of iridescent fire.
The city was eerily silent, but Billy could feel the tension in the air. The radiation levels were dangerously high, and Billy had chosen to stay behind while the rest of his friends had abandoned the city. He was determined to survive.
Suddenly, Billy heard a voice calling out to him. "Hang with me," it said. Billy looked up and saw a figure standing at the edge of the city, silhouetted against the glowing sky. It was a young man, barely an adult, and he was wearing a tattered radiation suit.
He beckoned to Billy, waving his hand in a gesture of invitation. Billy hesitated for a moment, but something in the young man's voice convinced him to follow. He stepped forward and joined the stranger as they began their journey through the deserted city.
The young man turned to him and smiled. "My name is Jake," he said. "I've been living here alone since the Evacuation. It can get pretty lonely, but I'm sure you know what that's like."
Billy nodded in agreement. He told Jake of his own struggles and the journey he had made to be standing in that spot. Jake listened attentively, a sympathetic look in his eye.
They walked together until the sun set.
