David Hockney, the celebrated artist, had grown tired of painting flowers. At first, it had been a fun challenge. But after painting bouquet after bouquet he was bored of painting flowers and decided to paint a rabbit. This is best! He said. I should have been painting rabbits all along. “I’m going to do 150 paintings of rabbits,” he declared out loud, surprising himself with the clear thought and decisive action. He had been studying the anatomy of rabbits for some time, and now felt fully inspired to combine that knowledge with the artistic realism he had become famous for.
